Warm Summer Greetings...

Hello,

I know it’s been a while since I posted last. I discovered how difficult it is to be creative when under an enormous amount of stress. I tried to analyze where the stress all came from. Could it be the two job changes in the past year? Or was it having my baby graduate from high school and move away to college? Maybe I was merely experiencing the much dreaded mid life crisis everyone speaks about. I do know having to deal with my Dad and siblings in regards to my mother’s estate is what pushed me over the edge. Taking on the responsibilities of my mother’s estate as co-executor and trustee wasn’t exactly an easy task. In an effort to deal with life’s stresses I took a leave of absence from my scrapbooking. I resigned from being a part of Helmar’s design team, something I loved dearly. A side note, thank you to Tracy at Helmar Adhesives for her love and support. She even sent me a going away gift full of Helmar adhesives. I’ll put them to good use soon! This time I spent away from scrapbooking was spend doing something positive. I devoted my time and energy to gardening!

Will I return to scrapbooking? Of course, I find crafting as a form of therapy. I found gardening to provide a different kind of healing. Spending time outdoors I discovered all kinds of wildlife. Deer graze and sleep in my back yard. Mice live in my compost bin. A snake lives under my deck. Humming birds feed on the flowers. Toads live in my garden and I hear the owls hoot in the trees as I walk around in the garden. I have overcome some of my fear of bees, I no longer panic when I hear them buzz by my head. I love spending time outdoors listening to the trees rustle when the wind blows. I love the feel of the sun on my skin; it reminds me of my youth growing up in Texas. It is so relaxing to watch the sun set. If I stay outside long enough, the deck lights come on. I experience the ambiance of country life to the fullest.

Helmar USA, Inc, distributes Helmar Adhesives & Art Mediums in the United States. Have you had dreams at night that adhesives would land on your doorstep? Do you want to be a part of one of the most creative teams and work with products from the most amazing manufacturers? Well, that dream can come true…….Helmar USA, Inc. wants YOU to become a member of our USA Design Team!

We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated scrappers and paper crafters to serve a six-month term beginning June 1, 2010 (Continuation of the term will be determined by both parties at the end of six months.)

As a Design Team member, you will receive:
*Advance releases of products!
Adhesives!
*Endorsement fees for published layouts and projects!
*Payment for projects used for trade shows!
The latest & greatest products from our Preferred Vendors!

Design Team members are required to:
· Dedication to a minimum of (2) blog posts per month. More are LOVELY!
· Dedication to your personal blogs which means keeping them fresh and mentioning Helmar products (we will do our best to promote you personally as well which is a win-win for everyone). Keeping them fresh and new is important.
· Involvement with social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Facebook at minimum is required. This is the future for the industry and plays an even bigger part now than publications.
· Dedication to our preferred vendors. They treat us great! We work very hard to secure those relationships.
· Optional...Teaching experience. We are expanding our marketing efforts and the best way to do this is by demonstration and teaching.
· Another great plus is video tutorials.....and step-by-step projects or kits featuring Helmar products.
· Members are asked to submit their monthly Helmar projects for possible publication in crafting magazines and idea books.
· Members will also complete special projects as requested by Helmar to be used for trade shows, catalogs, promotional items, and various other venues.

1. Name, address, daytime & evening phone numbers, and email address (US and Canadian applicants only, please)
2. Short biography
3. Links to any on-line galleries and/or blog
4. List of other design teams in which you are currently or were previously a member
5. A brief paragraph stating why you would like to be a member of our Design Team
6. Three example projects using Helmar adhesives and art mediums (layouts or paper crafting projects) no larger than 150k each – Make sure to list any special adhesive techniques used and list the Helmar products.

Welcome to your first stop on the Helmar Blog Hop. As a designer for Helmar, I’ve had an opportunity to use some fabulous products. When asked to choose my favorite, I couldn’t possibly do that. Each one of Helmars’ products has its own creative purpose in my crafting. I love to make mini-albums and create layouts for scrapbooks; I chose to feature an adhesive that I reach for most often, Helmar Quick-fix Adhesive Runner.

This is a double sided, acid free, archival and photo safe adhesive. It is perfect for craft, school projects, office, scrapbooking and card making. It is quick and easy to use, providing an even layer of adhesive onto the application surface. Ideal for quickly adhering many light weight items such as cardstock, photos and ribbon. Helmar Quick-fix Adhesive Runner can easily be refilled, just open the dispenser and drop in a new cartridge. Helmar Quick-fix Adhesive Runner allows me to add photos to layouts and projects such as the one featured on this clipboard. This personalized clipboard can hang on you wall as a message board. Zutter’s Mini-Luggage is too cute to resist. This little luggage measure 4 ½ X 3 X 1 ¾ inches packs a big design opportunity. This is a unique way to store a mini-album and tiny ephemera. It’s perfect for many occasions; this white patent looking luggage is embellished with black pattern papers by Melody Ross, bold yellow Prima Flowers and butterfly cut-out designs from Melody’s papers. The possibilities are endless.

I covered outside of the luggage, top and bottom with Melody Ross Designer Collections artsy Urban Papers. I applied all of the papers using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. I added some butterfly cut out from Melody’s pattern papers and applied to the outside using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. On the inside of the luggage, I embellished with another butterfly cut out using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. For the album, I cut up pattern paper from Melody Ross Design Collections artsy Urban Papers. The album is bound together using the Zutter Bind-it-all ½ antique brass o’wire. The set is complete and ready to fill with your photos and special memories.

Nikki Sivils U R My Favorite

Nikki Sivils Scrapbook U R My Favorite “You, You, You” paper is fabulous. Creating a layout is quick and easy using this pattern paper as the foundation for your layout. I love the monochromatic theme, scalloped edges, flourish designs and the little crowns in each corner. I followed the design in each scallop as my guide for placing a decorative brad, just use a paper piercer for punching the holes.

The edges of the photo were dry brushed with acrylic paint to coordinate with the papers. To add dimension to the embellishments, I used Helmar ZAPDOTS. Check out the close up photos of placement of Helmar ZAPDOTS.

Elle’s Studio has a huge selection of tags; here I used Saltwater Taffy Journaling Tag as a frame for my number two. I altered the tag by sanding down the edges and embellishing with a flower.

To create this layout, punch out the decorative pattern paper from the gcd studios Christmas Sleigh paper pack. The designs in this paper pack are so versatile that they can be used for more than just Christmas theme layouts. As you can see from the round decorative edge paper, I created a theme about love instead. Classic designs such as the papers in this packet can be used for more than just one season. I love, love, love Elle’s Studio Tags! Here I used one of the Love Notes for my journaling box, embellished with a flower it can be pulled out from the heart shaped pocket to read. Creative Impressions has a vast assortment of Bits of Bling, I love how this pearl bling adds a touch of class to my flower centers. The photo is adhered with Helmar Quick-Fix Adhesive, applied to only 3 sides of the photo. This enables the journaling to tuck behind the photo. The lace and heart were applied with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. To add dimension to the layout, I used Helmar Black ZAPDOTS on the tag an flower.

Happy Valentine's Day

One associates the month of February with love, Valentine’s Day, boxes of chocolates and the color red. To keep in with the theme, I created this vintage rose album. Hopefully it sparks a little romance, bringing you back to remember a special person, place and event.

To create this album, I used fabric that was designed for scrapbooking. I cut two strips of fabric to 6 x 8 wrapping it around the album cover. I mitered the edges allowing a clean fold around the corners. I cut a scalloped edge on the red velour fabric and placed a strip on the spine of the Cover-All. Helmar Acid Free Adhesive was used on all the fabric to attach it to the cover. The 6x6” inner pages were cut using the Zutter DreamKutz tool. The pages were bound together using the Zutter Bind-it-All and ¾” Red O’wires.

Remove the mailbox flag; it can be re-attached later using a Zutter Rivet. Cover the mailbox with Nikki Sivils U R My Favorite pattern papers. I applied all of the papers using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. I embellished the mailbox with flowers with Bits of Bling, frog cut out designs from Nikki Sivils pattern papers and applied to the outside using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. I cut an unfinished wood candlestick for the mailbox base. Paint with white acrylic paint. Attach the wood base to the mailbox using Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue.

It’s time to celebrate our relationships, friendships and love. In celebration of Valentine’s Day, I wanted something special for my photos. I created this vintage looking heart box using Helmar Adhesives and several of their preferred vendors’ products: Creative Impressions, Inc Bits of Bling, Elle’s Studio Tags, and Pink Paislee Love Potion Cupid Paper Collection. I love how the combination of all of these products turned an old candy box destine for the trash into a romantic keepsake treasure!

I covered the box lid, bottom and sides of the heart box using papers from Pink Paislees Love Potion Cupid Collection. I applied all of the papers using Helmar Acid Free Glue. I added some lace around the side of the box using Helmar 450 QuickDry Adhesive. Embellishments were added to the box lid using Helmar Liquid Scrapdots. The mixture of crochet flowers, Prima Flowers with Bits of Bling in the centers from Creative Impressions, Inc. gave a vintage look. I love Elle’s Studio Vintage Labels; I just cut one out, distressed with sandpaper and applied a rub-on title. For the album, I used the paper lining as my template cutting heart shape pages form Pink Paislees Love Potion Cupid Collection. The set is complete and ready to fill with your anniversary, wedding, or Valentine’s Day memories.

Wintery wonderland projects....

It’s a winter wonderland around the world with record low temperatures with plenty of snow. Make the most of this time to capture the moment and preserve the memories. This treasure box and album is created using Helmar Adhesives and multiple preferred vendors’ products: Clearsnap, Creative Impressions, Inc.,Elle’s Studio and The Robin’s Nest.

I covered the base of the wood box using with wintery papers from The Robin’s Nest applied using Helmar Acid Free Glue. To add to the vintage feel of the papers, I rubbed ColorBox inks around the edges for a distressed look. For the box lid, I used coordinating papers from The Robin’s Nest applied using Helmar Acid Free Glue. I drilled a hole in the lid of the box and put a hardware drawer knob. Using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, I embellished the box lid with large felt snowflakes form CreativeImpressions.com. I placed Bits of Bling from Creative Impressions in the center of each snowflake. The box wouldn’t be complete without a label, here I used Elle’s Studio Vintage Label Cut Outs and distressed with sandpaper. To give the box some legs to stand on, I painted wood knobs and adhered to the box using Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue. The box if beautiful on it’s own, lets’ take it a step further by making a coordinating album to fit inside the box. Using the Zutter Bind-it-all, I punched holes and bound it with Brass O’Wires. I dry brushed the chipboard covers with blue and white acrylic paints. Once the paint dried, I applied The Robin’s Nest Snow Fun Rub-ons. The inner pages of the album are from The Robin’s Nest Winter Retreat papers cut to 4” x 4” size of the covers. Apply a Large Felt Snowflake with a Bit of Bling all from CreativeImpressions.com. The ensemble is complete and ready to fill with memories of wintery events.

A year in review album is the perfect start for the New Year. Create an album to highlight special events from the previous year. The good news is this album can be made quickly. The use of Zutter pre-punched page protectors gives you the flexibility to change your photos in your album as you desire.

To create this album, I chose the black Bamboo Cover-All. I liked the elegant look of the black spine with the Asian theme pattern papers. I cut pattern papers for the interior and exterior cover, using Helmar Acid Free Glue to adhere to the Cover-All. Wrap a piece of grosgrain ribbon around the cover along the edge of the paper. Embellish the cover with flowers and metal charms with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.

Merry Christmas to all!

Dear Family and Friends,

This year, I rediscovered the holiday spirit through a second-hand sweater and a joke. Don’t worry, I’ve found Christmas cheer in weirder ways. That second-hand sweater was not the cutest puppy in the pet store. It was, redeemably, the fuzziest though, so I kept it. The more I wore it, the more I loved it, so I even replaced the buttons and patched the seams. The sweater had a beginning with me, but not a new one. As the years fly by, I’ve realized that truly new beginnings are hard to come by and that old beginnings are perhaps all the fuzzier, all the warmer and cozier for being old. What does this have to do with the holidays? Well, not to dampen your yuletide cheer, but I’ve realized that, as we celebrate the end of a tired year and ring in the new, we’re not actually ringing in anything new. For anyone over a year old, this holiday season is a like my broken-in sweater. It’s an old beginning. Every year on the eve of the last night of December, we look back—then forward. And it’s one of God’s greatest blessings. Even though 2010 is a new year to us, and 2009 the old, every year is a beginning that’s beginning again.

This year, David started college at North Carolina State University, where practically his first action was to taunt me about better football, better organized campus, and better ice cream. He’s joined the club cross-country team and plans to continue running with the club for track season in spring. He wants to major in computer science, and after getting a 4.0 GPA for his first semester, he's off to a good start. He's asked Santa for a Nissan GT-R for Christmas, but Santa's Helpers--Mom and Aunt G--have told him that the only car he's getting is a toy that will fit in his stocking.

While David couldn’t wait to begin college, now I can’t wait to graduate. In May, barring any unforeseen senioritis, I’ll walk the stage for degrees in Dramatic Arts and Photojournalism with a minor in English. In November, I completed the Battleship Half-Marathon in Wilmington, N.C., with a couple of my best friends from Zeta Tau Alpha. Better yet, 2009 will be remembered as the year that I finally made a passable apple pie, after four Thanksgivings of failures! Next year, I hope to move to New York City, own a cat named "Moose" and coax my family up to visit me often.

Daniel still enjoys working as barista and waiter at the same restaurant in downtown Asheville, N.C., although the cafe has changed names over the last few years. Now it's called Ello, so when he answers the phone, he cries, "Hello, it's Ello." Danny loves bargain book hunting and filling his external hard drives--yes, he has several--with music and videos. He’s taking classes at Asheville-Buncombe Tech studying computers, so he and David spend breaks arguing about computer coding and demolishing each other in video games.

Mom's new beginning is, in her own words, the "best Christmas present of all." In November, she started a new job at Charlotte Country Day School’s athletic department. She is thrilled to be wearing the Bucs' green and white. She still designs for Helmar Adhesives and Zutter Bind-It-All, so her scrapbooking studio is bursting with scrapbooking projects. Mom also makes a mean Texas chili, grows great tomatoes and loves having a blaze in the fire pit. She and Tony celebrated their 10-year anniversary this year, and even with all of the kids finally out of the house, Tony still loves and complains about our noisy visits home. "Crumb-crunchers," he'll grumble at us—and smile.

David brought the rest of the season rushing back to me with a joke. Aunt G asked him whose birthday was coming up in December, expecting his reply, “Mine, mine! Mine’s on the 18th!” Instead he gave a facetious grin and asked, “Jesus’ birthday?” But he’s right, you know. Of all the holiday sentiments, the spirit of beginning is what this season is all about. We’re not just beginning another year; we’re celebrating the birthday, the very beginning, of the Messiah. God’s love, made real for us in Christ and sacrificed through his body, began two-thousand years ago, and we still celebrate it today. Every day is an old beginning to be thankful for, every Christmas and New Year’s a celebration of the old beginning of the gospel.

Cut out 8” x 10” pattern paper for the album cover. Cut out 8” x 10” cardstock for the album pages. I love the freedom one has with Zutter to create custom albums. Apply the paper to the cover using Helmar Acid Free Glue. After the adhesive dries, I lightly sand the edges with a sand block. With the Zutter Bind-it-All tool I punch the holes and bind the album together using ¾”OWire. Apply Helmar Vellum Spray to a doilie. Here I cut a paper doilie in half, one half for the fornt and the other for the back cover. Then I embellish the album cover using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. Instructions:
1. I had used pillow boxes for this project; you can create your own. I saw many free pillow box patterns on the internet. All I did was measure the pillow box and cut a strip of pattern paper to fit.
2. Wrap the pattern paper around the box and secure with Helmar Quick-Fix Adhesive Runner.
3. Wrap ribbons around the box, tie a knot and cut ribbon at an angle.
4. Tuck the pink crochet snowflake underneath the knot of the ribbon. Place a dab of Helmar Scrap Dots to secure on the package.
5. Add a pink poinsettia flower on the snowflake with a little Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.
6. Add gift tags, here I secured them with a tiny safety pin.

Creating 4” x 4” albums is my favorite size to make with the Zutter Bind-it-All and DreamKuts tools. They are quick and easy to make. A great way to use up left over papers you have from projects. Not to mention they are just so cute as gifts for all occasions. Here I made a collection of five mini-albums. I’m ready for the upcoming holidays with a basket full of albums for gifts..

With the help of the Zutter DreamKuts Tool; cut 4” x 4” pattern paper for the album cover and 4” x 4” cardstock to use for the album pages. I love the creative freedom one has with Zutter tools to make custom albums. Apply the paper to the cover using Helmar Acid Free Glue. After the adhesive dries, I lightly sand the edges with a sand block. With the Zutter Bind-it-All tool I punch the holes and bind the album together using ¾”OWire. Then I embellish the album cover using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. The last thing I do is tie ribbons on the album binding if desired.

I purchased these boxes a few years ago, holding onto them until I felt inspired. Have you ever purchased something and not used it yet? Let me challenge you this Christmas to pull out something from your stash and add some updated paper designs. You will be thrilled with the final results. To decorate the drum boxes, I used GCD Studios Christmas Sleigh Collection Pack for the foundation. This paper pack was full of beautiful foil, flocked and glitter pattern papers. The first thing I did was remove the cord trim from all the drum boxes. Paint trims in coordinating colors and set aside. One of the trims sparkles; I brushed Helmar Acid Free Glue and then sprinkled glitter on it. Then I cut the pattern papers the width of the drums. Attach the papers to the outside of the drums using Helmar Acid Free Glue. Place the trim back on the drums using Helmar Acid Free Glue. Embellish with flowers, tulle and Elle’s Studio Tags attaching everything with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. The boxes are ready to fill with treats for gifts or set out on display to spread Holiday Cheer.

Hello, I’m the Zutter Girl from North Carolina. I love the Zutter Bind-It-All, DreamKuts and Score-It-All products, so participating on the design team was my pleasure. I’ve made new friends from all over the world, inspired by each individuals personal style. This is the first time for me to participate in a layout swap; I can tell you it was like Christmas when the box arrived with everyone’s layouts. I encourage you to check out each one of our blogs to see the layouts we each submitted and the way we each embellished our Cover-All Albums.

As for the layout, each member received a different layout. The sketch was the same but the color theme and embellishments’ varied. Here’s just a few of the layouts I submitted to the team.

My Cover-All Album was all white so I was working with a blank artist canvas. I stamped the entire cover with a script font; sponge painted the cover, painted flowers and drew on it with a white opaque pen. I cut out a frame from a piece of Prima papers for the front of the cover. The title was created using rub-ons. I couldn’t resist adding the book bra, perfect for this Shabby Chic album theme. Having the freedom to make each album unique and personal is the main reason why I recommend Zutter Products. The ability to turn almost anything into an album with their products makes this a good value. Something we are all mindful of these days.

As for the album pages, I received the removable pages. This gives me the flexibility to add pages to my album.

You can stamp on paper to create cards and scrapbooks, stamp on fabrics, acrylic and even laminate. This laminate chip sample was free from the local hardware store. Here are the supplies and designer notes on how you can create this keychain.

Designer Instructions:

1. For the keychain, I used a laminate sample from the hardware store.
2. I stamped an image on the front with permanent ink with a flower square from the Stampendous! Four Flowers Square Set. I colored the flower in using a Slick Writer marker.
3. On the back of the laminate sample, I adhered Pink Paislee pattern papers and a photo using Helmar Acid Free Glue.
4. Then brush on Helmar Acrylic Sealer over the front and back side of the laminate piece.
5. Add a chain, ring or a shower ring as I used here. Tie ribbons and add keys to complete your custom keychain.

I’m always looking for unique ways to house my scrapbook memorabilia and memories. I made this ceramic purse in an evening class at the local college. Once it’s fired and completed, embellish the outside of the purse. Then make an album to fit inside. Here’s how I did it….

Supplies Used:
Handmade Ceramic Purse
Helmar 450 Stainless Adhesive
Helmar Premium Craft Glue
Prima Flowers, Jewels, Tea and Silk Pattern Papers and Ribbons
Anna Griffin All Night Media Ornamental Frame

Instructions:
1. Adhere ribbons and lace around the ceramic purse with Helmar 450 Stainless Adhesive.
2. Use Helmar Premium Craft Glue to adhere the metal hardware to outside of the purse.
3. Create an album with coordinating pattern papers to fit inside the purse.
4. Use the Zutter Bind-it-All tool and the ¾” Antique O’Wire to bind the album together.
5. Embellish the album cover with flowers and metal hardware using Helmar Premium Craft Glue.

Now display your album in style!

The Dog Days of Summer...

Did you stay home and enjoy lazy days of summer this year? You don't have to travel far from home to create a vacation album. Combine your love for dogs and create this fun summer theme album. The Dog Days of Summer Album is another way to document your summertime memories. Place it on a Zutter Display-it-all so you can reminisce all year long! When I create an album in advance, I leave space for photos and no text or titles. That way I can do that when I add the pictures or use the album as a gift. Here’s how I created this project:

1. The Zutter 7.5” x 5” Clip-Board Covers with a 7.5” x 5” pattern paper on the front and back covers using Helmar Acid Free Adhesive.
2. Embellish the cover with a flourish design that I cut out of pattern papers.
3. Add Just Puppies to the front and back covers using Helmar Acid Free Glue.
4. The title on the cover is created using alphabet stickers. Place the self adhesive stickers to cardstock, trim around the letters and rub an ink pad around the edges. Vary the height of the title using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.
5. The album pages are Zutter Black Pages. Embellish the pages with Just Puppies using Helmar Acid Free Glue. For photo placement, add pattern papers to the pages using Helmar Quick-Fix Adhesive Runner
6. Bind the album using the Bind-it-all and Black 1” O’Wires.
7. Place the album on the Zutter Display-it-all and enjoy your summertime memories all year long!

I enjoy making bath salts & soaps. Combine that with my love for papercrafts and I have a spa gift set. I think it is because taking a luxurious spa bath is my number one way to unwind rest and relax. Since going to a spa daily doesn’t exactly fit in my budget, I create the same for myself. Here’s how you can make the same for yourself or give as a gift for someone else.

1. For the foundation of my projects, I recycle baskets, boxes, planter pots and various product packaging. Measure and cover you container with Karen Foster Design pattern papers. Adhere with Helmar Acid Free Glue.
2. Fill the package with bath sponges, towels and pumice stones.
3. For plastic containers and glass jars, I clean off the labels. Paint the lids with acrylic paints. While the paint was still wet, I pressed a paper towel onto the paint to create a distressed look.
4. I wrapped Magic Mesh around the container, and embellished with Karen Foster Design Stickers with Helmar Liquid Scrapdots.
5. Tie ribbons and tags around the neck of the jar. I fill the containers with bath salts that I make myself.
6. As for spa treatment sets I create for gifts, I make a card to coordinate. For this card, I used Karen Foster Design papers and embellished with flowers, ribbon and rub-ons.

1. Decoupage Zutter Cover-all with tissue paper using Helmar Acid Free Glue. I put two layers on the Cover-all so you wouldn’t see the white underneath.
2. Cut a piece of coordinating card stock with a decorative edge to create the purse flap. Adhere to the covers to create the illusion of a purse flap.
3. Add purse straps, creating holes through the cover using the Zutter Rivet & Setter.
4. Using the Zutter Setter, punch a hole in the cover for the purse knob and elastic strap.
5. With a paper towel, rub walnut ink on a tag, inside and outside cover-all.
6. Add feet to your purse, punch four holes in the spine of the cover-all using the Zutter Setter and Rivets.
7. On the inside front cover, use the Gaffer tape on the edges.
8. Add Journaling Card, Office Envelope and Flash Cards to the inside front cover.
9. Embellish the tag with flowers, frame charm and rub-ons. Tie on one of the purse handles.
10. Create the album insert using the Zutter Black Pages and the Black O’Wires. Place the album in the Cover-all and it’s ready to add photos of your next vacation!

2. I tore a strip of coordinating pattern paper and added it to the front and back of the covers.
3. Embellish the cover with a turtle charm, flowers, surfboards cut from a coordinating pattern paper, raffia and a chipboard title.
4. To simplify the process, I used Zutter 6” x 6” white pages and distressed with a coordinating ink pad color.
5. On the inside of the covers I choose to show the wood, all I did was paint bubble wrap and stamp the design.
6. Then bind the covers and page inserts together using the Zutter Bind-it-all and O’wires.
7. Once the album is assembled, add the photos and journaling from your trip.

Congratulations to my son on his recent graduation. I wanted to share a layout made to celebration this special day. Although this was a busy time of year for our family, Helmar Adhesives understands that as well. Their Quick-Fix Adhesive Runner is what I used to help me speed up the process completing cards and layouts. It’s quick and easy to apply. It takes only a little adhesive to the corners of my photos and paper layers to complete a project. It’s great to have access to so many products that enable us to spend more time making memories and less time trying to preserve them! 2. Use a piece of 6 x 6 inch ledger paper, print your journaling or quote on it, distress with ink and mount on your page using Helmar Quick-Fix Adhesive Runner.
3. Use Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to embellish the pages with Prima Flowers.
4. Add the Karen Foster graduation stickers with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots so they are raised off the pages for added dimension.
5. The last thing I did was add the chipboard title using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.

I love celebrating special occasions with gifts, cards and presents. I try to make the most of my scrapbooking tools and supplies by creating these gifts myself. In doing so, I gain a sense of accomplishment and create unique, one-of-a-kind personalized gifts. Here I turned a flower pot that I found in my basement into a gift set. The flower pot was cleaned, embellished, and filled with handmade bath soaps. Can you believe this entire project was created with only one adhesive? Helmar Premium Craft Glue is versatile enough to use for cards and for altered art crafts.

Card Instructions:

1. To create the card, I used a piece of Scribble Scrabbles Carmen Collection Paper cut to 8 ½ x 5 ½ inches and then folded in half.
2. The card is simple to embellish with Scribble Scrabble’s Die Cut punch out designs.
3. Distress the diecut and paper with sandpaper. I brushed the edges with a Prima ink pad as well.
4. Tie jute on buttons and glue to the centers of the flowers with Helmar’s Premium Craft Glue.
5. Assemble the entire card using Helmar Premium Craft Glue.

Flower Pot Instructions:

1. I cleaned the flower pot with soap and water. Then allowed it to dry completely.
2. Cut Scribble Scrabble Paper into strips. Wrinkle, tear and sand the paper strips to create a weathered look. Adhere to the pot using Helmar’s Premium Craft Glue.
3. Tie the Scribble Scrabble Die Cut tag onto the flower pot with jute and beads. Secure the tag on to the pot with Helmar’s Premium Craft Glue.
4. Fill the flower pot with soaps, towels and bath sponges.

The school year is winding down, I just finished with field day activities, varsity track season, and classes are near an end. Whew. I have a son graduating this month so his college plans, sports and award programs have kept me very busy. Although I haven’t posted lately, I have been scrapbooking. This project makes use of the Zutter Clip-Board Wood Covers. These wood covers are strong enough to uphold the natural bamboo papers and heavy embellishments. A discarded box is salvaged, distressed with ink and a Zutter Perfect Closer added to store this little album.

Instructions for the box:
1. Distress the box and the Zutter Perfect Closure with Colorbox ink pad.
2. Line the interior box with bamboo papers and secure using Helmar Craft & Hobby Glue.
3. Use the Zutter Pound-it-all to make holes in the box and lid, set the rivets for the Zutter Perfect Closure.

Instructions for the Album:
1. Cut bamboo papers 3” x 4”, the size of the wood covers.
2. Use the Zutter Bind-it-all to punch holes in the wood covers and bamboo papers.
3. Adhere the bamboo papers to the wood covers using Helmar Craft & Hobby Glue.
4. To keep the bamboo papers from fraying, apply Helmar Fray Stoppa to the edges of the bamboo papers.
5. Cut Making Memories papers to 3” x 4” size for the inner album pages.
6. Bind the covers and album pages using the Bind-it-all and the antique brass 3/4” O’wire.
7. Embellish the cover with torn papers and adhere to the cover using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. Add stone, flowers and letter tiles to the cover using the Helmar Liquid Scrapdots.

Instructions:

1. I used the monogram design from the JustRite DIY Monogram Stamper Kit.
2. It’s quick and easy to do, just hold the stamp upside down and press your letter into the grooves.
3. Ink up your stamp, and press onto cardstock.
4. I used a scalloped oval punch. Turn the punch upside down so you can center the monogram letters to cutout your shape.
5. To create the card base, cut the cardstock to 5½ x 8½ inches and fold in half.
6. Cut a 5 ½ inch piece of ribbon and attach to card using Helmar 450 Quick Dry.
7. Add flowers with the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.
8. Adhere stamped monogram cutout design using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.
9. Create a set of cards, I made 6 here.
10. Tie them together with ribbons and envelopes to complete the gift set.

There is light at the end of the tunnel with summer break in the horizons!

It's Spring and it’s an incredibly warm, blue-sky-gorgeous day in Southern California. So being all energized and ready for warm weather, we have decided to conduct our first blog challenge! The Zutter Zister designers are bringing out their colorful papers and flowers and are making amazing Springtime projects, so let’s see what you have up your sleeves (I have seen some of their April submissions, and the Gallery is going to be amazing come the first week of April!)

Create a Bind-it-All project of any kind (mini book, décor, altered item, even a layout!) – you just have to use the BIA in some way….the theme is Spring! Use springtime colors, events, or just something that feels "springy" to you. Leave a comment on the Bind-it-All Blog at http://www.binditall.blogspot.com/ with a link to a photo of your project. Your comment should mention how you used the BIA. Nothing too technical, just mention, “used baby blue owire” or something like that. The Zutter Zisters DT will pick their favorite and we will have an April Springtime Challenge Goddess!

I love making four by four inch mini albums. This size album is quick and easy to make. It’s the perfect size to carry in a purse or give as gift. A mother or grandma would love to show off their sweet boy in style. Use the Zutter Bind-it-all and chipboard covers to create this little album.

Supply List:

1. Cut pattern paper and adhere to the front, back and inside of the covers

using Helmar Acid Free Glue.

2. Use the DreamKuts tool to cut a piece of cardstock into album pages.

3. Punch holes in the covers and page inserts using the Zutter Bind-it-all.

4. Bind the album together using the Zutter Bind-it-all and ¾” O’Wire.

5. Now, embellish the cover. Place a die cut title to pattern papers using Helmar Acid Free Glue. Add the buttons Helmar Acid Liquid Scrap Dots.

6. Tie ribbons and tulle on the O’wire.

Ink Resist Project

I had the opportunity to substitute in a lower school art class recently. The classes were working on an ink resist project that day, which inspired me to create these cards. I wanted to share with you this simple technique learned that day. All you need is cardstock, a box of crayons, paint brush, adhesive and India ink. Let your imagination go and share what you have created with this technique.

1. Draw pictures on cardstock with crayons. Color dark and leave no white space showing through.
2. Wrinkle up your art work, open it up, and then crumple it again. Do this several times allowing the crayon to crack and cardstock to crease.
3. Now dilute India ink with water and brush over the art work. The ink will soak in the cracks of the cardstock. Allow it to puddle and air dry.
4. Once your work is dry, apply rub-on words and quotes to the designs.
5. Create a card by folding a piece of cardstock in half.
6. Mount your piece of artwork onto the card. Now you can enjoy, mail to a friend or add to a scrapbook page.

A new class is on the schedule at Scrapbooks & Etc. In this class attendees will create three 4 x 4 inch mini albums. This class will be different in that each individual will choose the theme of their albums from a selection of papers, ribbons and embellishments. This gives you the freedom to tailor the theme to your photo needs, and to design a style that suites your taste. If you have a particular theme in mind, please notify Traci Byrd at Scrapbooks & Etc. 704-455-9425 prior to the scheduled class. I will do my best to provide supplies to accommodate your needs. In this class, you will learn how to use the Zutter Bind-it-All and DreamKuts tools to save time and money by creating your own albums in the future. 4. Cut a tag out of pattern papers and embellish with glitter using Helmar 450 Quick Dry. Attach the title to the tag with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.
5. Tie a ribbon around the snow globe, attach the embellished tag.
6. Set out your snow globe and enjoy!

Since I work at a school, the talk of a snow fall always brings anticipation and excitement. It's an added bonus to have an unexpected day off from school. I love being at home, with my family and a cup of hot apple cider. I plan on getting a load of laundry done, organize and inventory my craft books and do some scrapbooking. Unforgetable Love is one of my design team entries, using old photos of my parents. It helps to know a little history, my parents house burned down when I was a senior in high school so very few photos and memorabilia survived. The pictures on this layout were just a few that survived. I never cut up an original (one that I do not own a negative or digital image), vintage or heritage photo. I scan it first, store the original and print up the images as needed for projects.

I am so excited about the start of a new year. It’s time for me to make plans, organize my craft room and set goals for 2009. Well, I am eager to share that I’ve met one of my personal goals already! How to make your own Christmas Ornaments...

Christmas is my favorite time of year! I love listening to festive music, enjoying beautiful decorations, mailing out cards, shopping for gifts, and wrapping presents. All of this sets the mood to make a few special ornaments for our tree. It’s easy to cut chipboard shapes with your favorite die cut machine or purchase precut designs. Helmar Adhesives provide the perfect adhesives when working with chipboard products. It’s easy to apply with a foam craft brush, which goes on smoothly and dries quickly.

Here’s the supply list and directions to help you create your own Christmas ornaments.

Rusty Pickle Grinch-mas Chipboard Ornaments

Directions:

1. Cut out chipboard or use precut chipboard designs.
2. Apply Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue evenly onto the chipboard shape.
3. Place on a piece of pattern paper, here I used Prima Angelic Collection.
4. Trim around the ornament with a sharp blade.
5. Repeat process until all sides of chipboard is covered with pattern papers.
6. The Helmar Premium Craft Glue is perfect to adhere the lace to the photo frame. The glue goes on evenly, dries clear and sets quickly.
7. Embellish the ornaments using the Helmar Scrap Dots to attach flowers, jewels and tags.
8. The twist top on the Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue allows you to apply glue to the edges of the ornament so glitter can be added to the edges.
9. Add ribbon to the ornaments.
10. Give the ornaments as a gift or enjoy on your own tree!

Whew, I am making my final portfolio presentation for my Drawing I class Monday night. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have enjoyed taking both painting and drawing classes this semester. It’s not always easy working all day, taking classes at night and playing catch up on the weekends. I plan on taking a break for the spring so I can focus on the family. My “baby” will be graduating in May and I want to attend all his track meets in the spring.

Zutter Bind-it-all gives Maya Road Car an overhaul...

Zutter Innovative products helped me give my Maya Road chipboard car mini album an overhaul. The car was on display at my LSS and later used as a class sample. This little car experienced a lot wear and tear causing the spine to break. The car sat parked on my scrapbook desk waiting for a solution. As I worked on my design team samples, it came to me, why not update the spine with my Bind-it-all tool? I used a sharp blade to separate all the album pages, lightly sanded the edges to smooth the surface and then I touched it up with paint. The button wheels had to be removed to enable the front and back pages to fit into the Bind-it-all machine. Once all the pages were punched, the 1” wire put on, wheels reattached and ribbon tied on the spine, the car was good as new!

Too Cute to Spook!!!

This is a quick and easy way to scrapbook your Halloween photos. The Bo-bunny Spooktastic Cutout sheet is cut up for the album pages, the Bind-it-all to punch and the 5/8” black wire to create this little album. Tie a little ribbon and you are done. I added a ghost rub-on to a clear transparency, trimmed around it and tied it on the spine. Create this as a party favor, only takes one sheet of cutouts to make the entire album!

Technique: Place ghost rub-on a transparency, trim and tie on spine. Gives the illusion that it’s floating on book.

Okay this is a fun tradition and I never even thought of how it could spread on the blog. Julia Sandvoss who is the head of our design team just did a fun post on the Bo Bunny blog at http://bobunny.blogspot.com/

The Bo-bunny Blog Post...

If you're not familiar with this...it a cute Halloween tradition. It involves...a Ghost, like you see here, that is given, along with a note or poem...and the best part a treat. Then you take those...place them at a neighbor's or friends door, ring the bell and run. The recipient then posts the Ghost on their window so others know they've been BOOed and now it's their turn to do the same for someone else. It's simply fun...and such a good feeling to do something special for others. We started doing this a few years ago. And I have to say..it was very fun to have someone BOO us!

So...how can you get BOOed? Well as much as I'd like to leave candy and treats at your door many of us are far apart, (we have readers from South Africa and Norway and China )...the BOO will work through the Blog network.

Field Trip

In the evenings, I take art classes at the local community college. This week, the teacher took us on a field trip to the Mint Museum of Craft + Design. It was college night, offering a free tour of the museum along with food, live music, and a brooch making activity. Wow, an evening of inspiration and an opportunity to get to know others in the class on a personal level. I left that evening with a fresh new look on art, new friends and not to mention this cute little pin. Thank you Elizabeth for a break from our regular classroom routine!

Spooktastic Month

It’s the month of October and the store displays are filled with costumes and supplies for upcoming Halloween festivities. This sets the mood and is my inspiration for the following project.

Halloween Layout Supplies: Bo-bunny Journal Acrylic StampBo-bunny Spooktastic Haunted PaperBo-bunny Spooktastic Batty PaperBo-bunny Spooktastic Cutout TagBo-bunny ButtonBo-bunny has a Spooktastic Line of papers, cardstock stickers and cutouts.

The Spooktastic Haunted paper emphasizes bats and flourish swirls throughout. I choose a stamp that will enhance the overall design in your pattern paper as this flourish journaling acrylic stamp by Bo-bunny. Tear the bats from the Bo-bunny Batty paper and adhere to the Haunted paper. Add photo and journaling tag to layout. Cut out bats from one sheet of Batty Paper, rub stickles on the bats and adhere with 3-dimensional foam to give the illusion that they are in flight. Apply the masking technique with the swirl journaling stamp to the layout. Apply a button and sticker embellishment to the center of the stamped image.

What’s masking? It isn’t just costuming that hides your face but also a stamp technique. Masking allows you to manipulate a stamped image, creating a unique, one-of-a-kind result for your projects. Once you’ve mastered simple masking, you can utilize this technique with multiple stamps to create a layered effect, but first, let’s start with the basics …

(1) First, stamp image on a piece of scrap paper.
(2) Cut around the area that will be your mask; in this case, it is the journaling lines.(3) Place the mask on your layout or card stock project.
(4) Carefully line up the stamp over the mask area and stamp the image with an even pressure. With the Bo-bunny clear acrylic stamps, this technique is even easier since you can effortlessly line up your image.

(5) Remove the stamp and mask to see the final image.
(6) Stamp the journaling tag to unify the theme; repetition of the stamp helps coordinate the layout!

Masking Tips

To ensure that the mask stays in place, use a temporary adhesive on the back of the image or stamp image on a Post-It® note.

It takes time and patience to cut out some mask images, save the pieces in your stamp and store cases along with your stamps so they are available to use again.

Practice a few times on scrap paper until you feel comfortable with this technique.

For a more complicated, layered effect, try masking with multiple stamps. Although this requires more forethought and practice, the results are well worth the effort. Remember, with Bo-bunny stamps, the possibilities are endless!

This is one of my entries. To create this little mini-album, I used the Dream Machine to cut 4 x 4 paper inserts. The Zutter covers were covered with pattern papers. The Chipboard “believe” was dry brushed with acrylic paint. The cover was embellished with flowers and lanters cut out of paper scraps.
